Introduction to Graphic Design (2004)
This survey course provides students with a foundation in basic
graphic design concepts and skills using a hands-on approach. Topics
include drawing, design elements, color theory, typography,
illustration, and layout techniques.
Image Editing (2004)
This course covers the basics of digital image editing and creating
illustrations. Topics include digital photography, scanning
techniques, photo retouching and manipulation, electronic color
theory, and special typographic effects. Additional topics touched
on include web graphics and basic animated GIFs.
Digital Illustration (2004)
In this class students develop electronic illustration skills. Emphasis
is placed on conceptual thinking, composition, creative type effects, and design campaigns.
Digital Layout (2004)
This course will assist students in developing skills to combine
imagery and typography in the production of effective layouts
using industry standard software. Topics covered will include the
function of type in design, pagination, paragraph formatting, layout,
and the fundamentals of prepress.
Multimedia: Audio/Video (2005)
This course provides students with an overview of video editing,sound editing, and special effects. Topics covered include working
with timelines to animate still clips, importing and editing digital
video and audio clips, and creating special effects.
Web Page Design (2005)
This course introduces students to the growing field of online
media. Topics include web site development using web authoring
software, basic HTML coding, design theory, layout, and review of
current Internet sites.
Multimedia: Presentation Graphics (2005)
This course presents students with an overview of multimedia
graphics focusing on presentation development. Topics covered
include storyboarding, basic scripting, and navigational mapping
utilizing key frames and timelines.
3D Modeling and Animation (2005)
In this course students are introduced to 3D modeling and
animation using industry relevant software. Topics covered include
project development from initial concept to final production using
lighting, camera angles, and textures.
Advanced Design Portfolio Review (2005)
This course presents students with the opportunity to polish
their portfolios, as well as their visual and oral presentation skills.
Topics covered include advanced design concepts and techniques,
typography, color, and marketing skills throughout all portfolio projects.
Advanced Interactive Authoring Design (2006)
This course explores interactive development for multiple
platforms and applications. Information architecture and
functionality concepts will be discussed, with a perspective on new
media and convergent technologies.
Audio/Video Technologies for Multimedia (2006)
This course provides an overview of the delivery of video for
New Media format. Topics include File Formats and Codes (MOV,
AVI, SWF, MP3, RAM), the advantages and disadvantages of how
to encode for each, and optimization.
Digital Production Techniques for Screen (2006)
This course reviews advanced digital content development. Topics
covered are optimization and formatting of content for digital
production including text, images, still images, vector animation,
digital sound, and video.
Interactive Scripting (2006)
This course introduces students to advanced scripting for the
web. Topics include XML, XHTML, JavaScript,VB script, CGI, and
WAP.
Advanced Web Design (2007)
This course focuses on expanding the students’ abilities to create
visually dynamic and effective designs for the web using industry
standard software applications.The course covers site
management techniques, online marketing concepts, complex
interactivity, and animation development.
Web/Multimedia Development and Planning (2007)
This course explores the fundamentals of business and product marketing as well as the unique aspects of Internet marketing and commerce. Topics include project management, storyboarding, Internet marketing and commerce, and client management.
Database Design and Development (2007)
This course introduces students to e-commerce database design and management. Topics include Structured Query Language (SQL); shopping carts; Secure Socket Layers (SSL); secure transactions; advanced forms, tables and queries; Macromedia Generator; database analysis, design and management; Hypertext Processor (PHP); and Active Server Pages (ASP).
Electronic Commerce and Marketing (2007)
This course introduces students to browsers and their relationship to the internet. Topics include branding, logos, corporate standards, copyright/trademarks, marketing and advertising.
Web Technologies (2008)
This course introduces the students to basic scripting languages, web security, and emerging web technologies. Students will explores some of the technologies through the creation of an e-commerce site.
Visual Design for Web and Multimedia (2008)
This course covers the fundamentals of design. Topics include digital typography, layout, web safe colors, globalization, and disabilities of viewers.
